Denmark’s
Holger Rune’s comments after losing
Carlos Alcaraz
did not go down well as fans called him a ‘sore loser’.
The 20-year-old suffered a defeat against the world number
one in the quarterfinal of the
Wimbledon 2023 in straight sets with a score of 7-6,
6-4, 6-4 on Wednesday.
After the match, Rune stated that he did not feel the best and
despite his efforts, he ended up short in the contest.
"I didn't feel the best in today's match, but I did my
best not to disappoint the crowd. I tried to fight until the end. Didn't feel
as I feel the other days when I woke up this morning," he said.
Those comments did not go down well as some social media users
called the current world number six a ‘sore loser’.
Despite the result, Rune will be pretty pleased with his
performance in the third Grand Slam of the year in London.
Before losing to Alcaraz in the last-eight fixture, he
defeated Britain’s George Loffhagen (7-6, 6-3, 6-2), Spain’s Roberto Carballes
Baena (6-3, 7-6, 6-4), Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (6-3, 4-6, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6)
and Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov (3-6, 7-6, 7-6, 6-3) in the first, second, third
and fourth round fixtures respectively.
