Frances Tiafoe played a stunning match in Vienna against Stefanos Tsitsipas coming back from losing the first set to win the match.
This was not the first upset Tiafoe pulled over Tsitsipas in 2021 as the American bested the Greek in the first round of the Wimbledon Championships. This match was closer than that one but it once again saw Tiafoe as the winner. It was even more impressive especially since he lost the first set and trailed 0-3 in the final one. After the match, Tiafoe thanked the crowd revealing that he simply loves playing in front of a lot of fans.
He said:
“You’ve got fans going nuts early in the match. I want to play. I want to be out there, I want to give it my all. You’ve got little kids screaming ‘Big Foe’ and that’s what it’s about. It’s almost irrelevant who you’re playing. Obviously, I want to beat Stefanos and these guys, it’s always good to have on the resumé. It’s been great.”
The atmosphere was brilliant all match long and some of that had to do with the product on the court. Both Tsitsipas and Tiafoe play a very beautiful style to watch and the crowd was engaged. As the stakes got higher the tension was even more present and Tiafoe loves that.
He explained:
"I just love playing in a packed house. I feel at home. I feel like that’s what it’s about. The result is almost irrelevant sometimes. You have kids coming out, parents bring these kids out, pay their hard-earned money to come watch me play."
He further said:
“I want people to have fun just like I’m having fun… I feel it’s my duty to ‘A’, bring it, give my all, but also to make sure everyone has fun. That kid at the top of the stadium, I want them going home remembering [they] watched Frances Tiafoe play and [they] had a great time.”
