Anett Kontaveit defeated Caroline Garcia in the 1st round of the Internazionali BNL d'Italia Rome and following the match she spoke to the media.

Kontaveit returned to the clay courts in great fashion defeating Caroline Garcia 6-4 7-6(1) in a match that was very close as he herself put it. It took her almost 98 minutes to defeated the Frenchman in a closely contested affair and after the match she said:
"I thought it was a very close match, even in the first set. Until she lost her serve, I felt like it was very close. We both served well, held serve well and we're playing good. I think I served a little bit more consistent, maybe - she served a couple of double faults in the first set and in the second set."
Kontaveit improved to 10-3 after the restart with this win that continued a great trend on clay started in Palermo not long ago. Speaking about that she said:
"I feel like playing Palermo definitely gave me the confidence of playing on clay and was not that long ago. I feel like I still have that in my body and remember it well. I think it's coming back very quickly. It has been a quick transition, but I'm doing alright. I feel really good about my game."
