Former Australian Open semi-finalist Hyeon Chung is set to make his return to tennis after several years of battling injuries.
Chung was once a superb talent that was slated for a great tennis career but the South Korean faced a back injury that saw him away from tennis for a full two years. Chung was once ranked 19th in the world after breaking out at the 2018 Australian Open.
The South Korean made his return in Seoul teaming up with the current South Korean number one Sonwoo Kwon. They won their match to advance to the quarterfinals. Chung said:
”It has taken me a long time to return to the court after rehabilitation, but I just feel good as I am able to come back to the court. No matter the result will be, I will do my best."
He will also make his return to singles soon opting to test his level and physicality at a few challenger events:
”My first goal for sure is to suffer no injuries, so staying healthy. This is my first competition after two years, so I don’t want to rush, I don’t want to push too hard.”
