Iga Swiatek endures a topsy-turvy affair against McNally in Ostrava

Iga Swiatek had to endure quite an up-and-down affair against Caty McNally in Ostrava winning 6-4 6-4 and securing a spot in the semi-final.

The Polish player is not playing her peak tennis this week in Ostrava as her matches have been quite competitive and so was this one. McNally has been playing all week long and she certainly gave Swiatek a run for her money. The first three games all featured break points but neither player broke.

McNally was the one that broke first taking a 3-2 lead but she lost her serve in the very next game to make it 3-3. Eventually, Swiatek stabilized enough to break the American late in the set and take the set 6-4. It was a good result as she really did not play as well as she could.

The second set featured a similar sequence of events albeit a bit differently. Swiatek opened the set well taking an early 3-0 lead with a chance to cruise to a comfortable finish. It wasn't that comfortable as McNally mustered some spirit to battle back to a 3-3 score.

Still the American faltered under pressure dropping her serve at 4-5 in the final set to send the Polish player to the semi-final.
