"I'm happy with my fifth title of the year" says Zverev after claiming the Vienna trophy

Alexander Zverev faced off against Frances Tiafoe in the Erste Bank Open final in Vienna and despite some shaky play, he was able to overcome his opponent and lift the trophy.

It's was not a dominating display from Zverev in the final but the German did what he needed to do in order to win in straight sets. Speaking on the match after it, Zverev admitted that Tiafoe was tactically very good not allowing him to play the way he wanted:

“He didn’t let me play the way I wanted to play, tactically he was very good."

Even so, it did not matter much. Zverev proved he was the much better player winning in two close sets. The win secured him his 5th title overall in 2021 in what has been a very good year for Zverev. He said:

“But I am happy with the win and I am happy with my fifth title of the year and I am happy with my first in Vienna, so it was a good day.”

His ascension started back at the Olympic Games when Zverev was able to come back and win against Djokovic. According to him, that injected him with a lot of confidence that he still carries:

“I think the Olympics gave me a lot of confidence and I believe I can compete for any title that I play in. I am happy with the form I am in but I have got two more massive weeks ahead of me and I hope I can do well.”
