Novak Djokovic refused to take the COVID-19 vaccine which earned him the nickname Novax which he's not appreciative of because he is not against vaccination.
Novak Djokovic never took the COVID-19 vaccine believing that free choice on the matter was paramount. He always advocated for free choices in anything, especially when it comes to what athletes put in their bodies. His choice was to not take the vaccine which wasn't a popular choice, especially with many events mandating vaccination as part of their participation rules.
He missed out on many events due to that but still feels that it's the right decision. He explained why he doesn't understand the Novax nickname recently:
"I am not no vax & I have never said in my life that I am. I'm not even pro vax. I am pro choice. I explained it once to BBC, but they eliminated many sentences, the ones that were not convenient. So I never spoke of this story again."
