Two-time Munich Open champion
Alexander Zverev lost to Holger Rune in straight sets 3-6 2-6 and following the match, the German reporteadly broke down in tears.
It was a very dissapointing loss for Zverev whose shaky season continued in Munich. The German was very dejected during the post. match press conference burying his face in his hands a couple of times out of frustration. He apologiized to the event and the crowd saying:
"I'm sorry. I'm sorry for the spectators, I'm sorry for the
tournament. It was my worst match in the last five, six, seven years."
He continued:
"He's a good player, but I would have lost to anyone today. If I try to find an excuse now, I'm not the smartest person in the world. I was incredibly nervous today before the match. It was my first time in Germany in front of a crowd for years."
The timing of his struggles is not good as Zverev is defending 1000 ATP points next week in Madrid where he triumphed twice before including last year.
