Serbia’s legendary tennis star,
Novak Djokovic, has revealed that he does not care about rankings anymore. The 36-year-old is often regarded as
the greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the Open era, having won
as many as 24 Grand Slam titles.
Djokovic has struggled with form this year where he has not managed
to play in the final of any event. For this reason, the Belgrade-born is now in danger of losing the top spot in the ATP rankings to Italy’s Jannik Sinner, who has been simply unstoppable. Addressing that ahead of his
French Open opener against Pierre-Hugues Herbert, Djokovic stated that he does
not care about rankings anymore and that there is a lot of motivation, especially in Grand Slams.
“At Slams, there is still a lot of motivation,” he said. “At
other tournaments not so much, but Slams, playing for Serbia, Olympics… Those
kinds of things still move me, still give me strength and desire. I mean, that
really is sufficient at this point in my career, that’s why I still play
professionally. Ranking is not my priority anymore – whether I add one, five or
ten more weeks, it doesn’t concern me, I think I’ve done pretty well in that
department.”
