Sebastian Korda made his Davis Cup debut for the USA against Colombia and the American was victorious in his debut.
The opponent was far lower ranked than Korda but Nicolas Mejia put up a rather strong fight. Korda ultimately proved better 6-1 1-6 6-4 but it showed the American the uniqueness of the competition where surprizes do tend to happen. When you play for more than yourself, many find added inspiration often times playing better.
Speaking after his victorious debut, Korda said:
"It’s definitely a unique experience. Hopefully, I can use it and keep going the way I’m going. My dad played quite a bit of Davis Cup and, now, getting the opportunity myself, representing USA, is kind of cool. Hopefully, I can represent for many years to come”.
America easily cruised against Colombia with Korda and Fritz delivering much-needed points. The Davis Cup future of America looks great with Korda, Fritz, Tiafoe, Paul and others ready to step in and replace veterans such as Isner and Querrey.
