Taylor Fritz played his best event ever not long ago at the Indian Wells Masters where he flashed some of his best tennis possible.
After losing in that event Fritz underlined that he has so much more to give and the American was not kidding. This week in St. Petersburg he is once again showing some of that talent that he flashed back home in California. The only difference is that he is doing it away from home with not many Americans in the stands. Even so, the fans have been receptive to Fritz who was amazed by the support saying on Saturday:
“It is amazing to have people cheering for me when I am so far away from home. I love all of the support."
The American will contest the final on Sunday against Marin Cilic who has always performed extremely well in Russia. The Croatian reached the final in Moscow last week at the Kremlin Cup ultimately losing to Aslan Karatsev. Against Fritz, he will have a chance to do better but it will be tough.
Speakign on his match in the semifinal againt Struff, Fritz said:
“I played pretty well for a lot of parts in the first set but a couple of things didn’t go my way. I went up a break but then didn’t have the best service game and got broken back. I had another chance to break and then got broken from 40/15 up. I recovered and brought it together and played a really solid second and third set.”
The final will be played at 14:30 with a report waiting for you upon completion.
