Spain’s
Carlos Alcaraz has once again heaps praise on
Britian’s
Jack Draper. Both players currently taking part in the ongoing French
Open 2025. Alcaraz cemented his spot in the round of 32 after beating Hungary’s
Fabian Marozsan in the second round with a score of 6-1, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. On the
other hand, Draper is set to feature in his second round contest against France’s
Gael Monfils on Thursday.
Alcaraz spoke to
TNT Sports after the match, where he once
again praised Draper. The current world number two was of the opinion that the current
world number five, who is set to become world number four after the end of the
ongoing competition because of Taylor Fritz’s first-round exit, will have a
deserving spot in the top four as he is one of the best players in the world.
"He’s a really nice person off the court," said Alcaraz.
"Everybody has seen what he’s capable of doing on the court. He’s a great
player. After this tournament he will reach his best ever career ranking -
world No. 4 - I’m just really happy for him. I’ve never had any doubt about
him. I respect that he’s going to be where he deserves to be and he deserves to
be at the top. He’s a really dangerous player. I’ve faced him a few times
already but it’s great to see him at the top."
Alcaraz then went on to discuss his own performance on the day when he lost the second set but managed to overcome the opponent. "In
the second set he started to play better and better,” he said. “The first game
he broke my serve and I think that pushed him to play better. But I’m really
happy to have refreshed my mind, forgetting everything that happened in the
second set. I started the first set really well. I tried to take my chances and
after that tried to keep it going and after that I played some great
tennis."
