Although the Big Three era has almost come to an end, the budding rivalry between top stars Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz is starting to bear resemblance to the infamous rivalry between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal almost twenty years ago.
Sinner and Alcaraz dominated the Grand Slam picture in 2024, with the Italian winning two Grand Slam titles; the Australian Open and the US Open. Conversely, Alcaraz has claimed the other two Majors in 2024, prevailing at Roland Garros and the Wimbledon Championships.

Federer's dominance in 2006 similar to Sinner's this year

The Swiss Maestro was a force to be reckoned with in the 2000's, racking up victories and Grand Slam titles. During the 2006 season, Federer amassed an amazing 92-5 match record. The former World No.1 racked up a 90-1 record against the field, but had a losing record against rival Nadal, going 2-4 against the Spaniard.
Sinner produced similar results this year, as he has recorded an impressive 70-6 match record in 2024 en route to eight ATP singles titles. However, the Italian was unable to solve the Alcaraz riddle. Sinner faced Alcaraz on three occasions, going 0-3 against the young Spaniard. Nonetheless, Sinner finished the year ranked as World No.1, and looks set to hold the position for a while based on his current form.
