Italy’s tennis star Jannik Sinner is now in great position
to achieve a unique milestone. The 22-year-old is already regarded as one of
the best players currently playing in men’s tennis along with Spain’s Carlos
Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.
Sinner has been having a great season, which is why he has become the world's number one. He replaced Serbia’s legendary tennis star Novak Djokovic, who lost the top spot in men’s rankings after being forced to withdraw from the recently concluded French Open just before the start of the quarterfinal against Norway’s Casper Ruud.

The newly-crowned world number one can become only the third player to win his
first two Grand Slams in the same year. Previously, this record was only registered
by America’s Jimmy Connors and Argentina’s Guillermo Vilas. It will be interesting to see whether Sinner can achieve that by playing in a competition where he does not have a great record. His best outing at Wimbledon came in the
2023 edition, where he lost in the semifinal to Djokovic in straight sets with a
score of 6-3, 6-4, 7-6.
Sinner won his first Grand Slam earlier this year after
beating Russia’s Daniil Medvedev in the final in a five-set thriller with a
score of 3–6, 3–6, 6–4, 6–4, 6–3. Win in the Australian Open was one of Sinner’s
incredible wins this year. He also lifted the Miami Open after beating Grigor Dimitrov
in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 6-1. He also lifted an
ATP event in Rotterdam and recently won the Halle Open after beating Poland’s Hubert
Hurkacz in straight sets with a score of 7-6, 7-6.
Sinner had an impressive outing in the recently concluded
French Open where he lost in the semifinal to current world number three
Alcaraz in a five-set thriller with a score of 2-6, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.
