JPeg is on a mission 😮💨 @JLPegula wins the last FIVE games to see off Linette and reach her 12th WTA 1000 quarterfinal! #MiamiOpen
Jessica Pegula was playing a really solid match to smash Linette in the first set but then fell behind heavily only to come back in superb fashion to win 6-1 7-5.
Pegula has been amazing since the start of the Miami Open and she's generally quite familiar with this event. She spent time in Florida growing up and she's played well at the event in the past. The first set showed a really high level as she completely smashed Linette from the baseline. Pegula didn't serve that well but she outplayed her opponent from the baseline completely.
Linette is a solid hitter but she could not keep up with Pegula who did miss a few shots at a time to drop her serve and lose the chance for the bagel but it didn't matter. The first set was taken 6-1 and that was good enough. She started to miss quite a bit more in the second set allowing Linette to jump out to an early lead.
Linette held that lead for much of the second set and serve for the set twice. First time at 5-2 and then at 5-4 again but wasted a set point the second time. Pegula then finished it off 7-5 as Linette complete fell apart. Her serve stopped and Pegula pounced on the weaker second serve to complete the incredible comeback.
