Former world number three
Juan Martin del Potro will make his highly-anticipated comeback at the upcoming
Argentina open.
The 2009 US Open champion had been struggling with knee injuries
since the end of the 2018 season but recovered in time to play at the
French Open and Madrid Open in 2019. However, Del Potro then suffered a devastating kneecap fracture against Denis Shapovalov
at Queen's Club in the same year - forcing him to undergo multiple
surgeries - and has not taken to the court competitively since.
He announced the comeback news in a statemenet that read:
"It's going to be so special to come back to the tour in Buenos Aires
and also play Rio. I worked a lot and made every effort to be with you
during the coming weeks," a statement read. Rio de Janeiro has a special place in my heart and I look forward to being with you and play the Rio Open for the first time."
