Finding his groove 💥 Felix unloading on the backhand wing... @felixtennis #CitiOpen
Sebastian Korda is back on the tennis courts and the American continued where he left off. After a strong showing at Wimbledon the American made a winning return to the surface on which he grew up on. He faced a strong opponent in Vasek Pospisil for a place in the 2nd round and he proved up to the challenge.
Both players served very well and won the majority of 1st service points. Korda was exceptional on Vasek's 2nd serve winning 14 of 16 points. He allowed converted his 3rd break point late in the 1st set to win it 7-5. After facing three break points on his serve in the 1st set Korda upped his level in the 2nd winning it 6-3 facing no break points.
Joining him in the 2nd round will be Felix Auger-Aliassime who faced Andreas Seppi in a match where he sought revenge. Seppi bested Auger-Aliassime at the French Open and the Canadian was motivated to repay the favour. However early on it seemed we were headed for another huge upset.
Seppi won the 1st set fairly easily with 6-2. Felix was all over the place and allowed numerous chances for Seppi on his 2nd serve. He was much more solid on the 2nd set serving well and reducing chances for Seppi. The Italian did not have a break point and that was enough for the Canadian to come back and win the 2nd 6-2.
By the 3rd set Auger-Aliassime was in a rhytm and the Canadian applied more pressure. Seppi faltered once more and that was enough for Auger-Aliassime to close it out with 6-2.
