Lukasz Kubot and Marcelo Melo defeated Juan-Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah in the final at the 2020 Abierto Mexicano in Acapulco
It was a stunning week for Kubot and Melo in Acapulco. They first defeated Lopez and Lopez, got through Dimitrov and Fritz when they pulled over and they defeated also Cacic and Lajovic. In the final, they faced probably the most dominant team of the 2019 season, Cabal and Farah.
Robert Farah had problems with doping, which were solved and
the Colombian was allowed to play again. The final in Acapulco was probably one of the longest ATP Finals in doubles which were played with a super tie-break. The whole match was played for more than 2 and a half hours.
Just a first set was played for 73 minutes when Kubot and Melo managed to win 8-6 in the tie-break. Also, 2nd tie-break needed to be decided in a tie-break but this time Cabal and Farah triumphed 7-4. Cabal and Farah did not convert 2 match points when they were winning 9-7. On the other hand, Kubot and Melo used their first to win 11-9 and claim the title in Acapulco.
”Me and Kubot are happy to win this title in Acapulco. This title means a lot to us,” Melo said. “We were able to put our best tennis together. The match was very tough and it was decided by one or two points.”
