Former French tennis player Marion Bartoli believes that one
of the reasons behind seeing Serbia’s
Novak Djokovic go ‘absent’ on the court recently is
because of his emotions for his wife and kids. The 36-year-old is often
regarded as the Greatest player in the history of men’s tennis in the Open era,
having won as many as 24 Grand Slam titles.
Djokovic is going through a rather difficult 2024 season
where he is yet to play in the final of any event. Bartoli, who won one Grand
Slam title in her career, was recently quoted in a report where she highlighted
why the Belgrade-born star struggle to maintain consistency in the recent past on
the court.
"I was lucky enough to have a discussion with one of
his staff members before the tournament started,” he said. “In fact, the
biggest problem they have to deal with Novak at the moment is that there are
days when he wakes up with his motivation intact, and there are days when, we
can understand him, he wants to be with his wife, his children, to take them to
school, to lead a normal life, to be at the beach, to enjoy and to tell himself
that he has accomplished everything. He oscillates between these two emotions
and that's why sometimes he's completely absent from the court.”
