The battle for the number one spot will be interesting as Daniil Medvedev has a decent chance to overtake Novak Djokovic before Roland Garros if he keeps playing well.
The Russian did not play much on clay last year before Roland Garros and he has virtually no points to defend while both Djokovic and Alcaraz have a decent amount to defend. Djokovic has to defend 150 points from Belgrade, 360 points from Madrid and 1000 points from Rome. Alcaraz has to defend 500 points from Barcelona and 1000 points from Madrid.
Medvedev has barely any points to defend which makes him a threat to cut the distance between them on the rankings. Djokovic has a decent lead over Medvedev and a small one over Alcaraz but the Spaniard has plenty of points to defend himself making Medvedev the most likely to threaten Djokovic for the number one ranking.
The race for number one is on.
