Daniil Medvedev RG 2021
Daniil Medvedev had a slow start in Paris against Sebastian Korda losing the opening set but he came back to win in 4-6 6-1 6-3.
Daniil Medvedev is still in the race to become the year-end number one in the world of tennis. He needs to win this event and today was a bit of a stressful affair for him and his fans. Medvedev came out strong in the match serving extremely well at the start. He even forced some early break points but each time Korda was able to hold him off.
Towards the end of the set, Medvedev started drifting off which happened to him yesterday as well. The young American was able to use that to his advantage breaking the Russian to make it 5-4. He easily closed it out with 6-4. It was a huge deal for the young American but it did not have the desired outcome. Korda came out flat in the 2nd against Medvedev who had a serious look on his face.
Channeling some of his frustration and anger into aggressive play Medvedev was able to quickly take a 3-0 lead. He then added another break before closing out the 2nd set with 6-1. The Russian looked determined to jump out in front early in the 3rd but it did not happen. Korda was not rattled too much by the loss of the 2nd set and he continued playing his game.
His serve was not working as well as before which allowed some windows for Medvedev and one of them the Russian took. It was 4-2 for Medvedev when Korda was serving to stay in the match however the Russian felt it was the moment to finish it off and he did. A 5-2 lead turned 5-3 lead which became a 6-3 finish. A bit of an issue but overall very good from Medvedev.
