Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic defeated Novak Djokovic and Filip Krajinovic rather easily in just over an hour to secure the final for Croatia.
It was a mammoth task for Djokovic and Krajinovic to take on the best doubles pairing in the world and they were not able to do it. From the start, it was evident that the Croatians played fearless tennis and they were completely in control of the match. On their own serve they were winning games easily while on return they applied a lot of pressure on the Serbians.
Krajinovic did not play a great match at all as the Serbian battled confidence issues in 2021. Djokovic tried everything he could saving 5 break points on his own serve with some spectacular serving but his teammates really let him down. The only victories Serbia had at this event were in matches where Djokovic played, be it doubles or singles.
After some initial nerves, the Serbians settled in and played good tennis for a few games. The Croatians eventually find a chance late in the set and they were able to convert closing it out with 7-5. After that, the Croatians continued playing great tennis easily dealing with anything the Serbians threw their way. They found an early break in the 2nd set to take a 3-1 lead.
They then added another break for a 5-1 lead after which they closed it out with 6-1 to secure a spot in the Davis Cup Finals final. A tremendous effort by the Croatian team who once again proved how good of doubles pairing they are.
