John Millman capped off a great week in Nur-Sultan by defeating Adrian Mannarino in the final of the Astana Open 2020 winning the trophy.
It was a good week for the Australian in Kazakhstan who won his first career title today by defeating Mannarino in the Astana Open final. Despite not being considered the favourite Millman played a very balanced match besting Mannarino in key rallies to win the match. The match lasted close to two hours with the Australian winning 7-5 6-1. The start of the match featured good play from both players with neither having any troubles winning their service games. Late in the set, Mannarino had break points in two consecutive games (5 in total) but he failed to use them. At 6-5 for Millman, the Australian forced his first break point of the match and immediately used it to win the set 7-5.
It all went downhill for Mannarino from there with the Frenchman having major issues with his serve and Millman just playing better overall. Boosted by his confidence he forced the issues against Mannarino forcing him to play long rallies that often ended with Mannarino making a mistake. The smart approach from Millman worked to perfection and he soon found himself up 5-1. In that game where he served for the match, he had to save one more break point and he did winning the 2nd set 6-1. A very good display from Millman who defeated the Frenchman with smart play and situational greatness. It is the first title of his career.
