Andy Murray made a triumphant return to Antwerp taking down Frances Tiafoe in three extremely tight tiebreaks 7-6(2) 6-7(7) 7-6(10-8).
It was a very gruelling and physical match between Murray and Tiafoe lasting well over three hours and ultimately it was the Brit that was triumphant. Murray has had his share of success in Antwerp winning the event in 2019 and the Brit looked very comfortable on the centre court. Despite that, early it was Tiafoe who was better taking a 3-1 lead. Tiafoe had issues of his own facing break points and experiencing some back troubles as well.
Eventually, Murray was able to pull it back when Tiafoe served for the set and make it 5-5. The Brit would lose his serve in the next game once more but he also broke back immediately in the next game sending it to a tiebreak. In the tiebreak, Murray proved better winning it with 7-2. The 2nd set featured a proper battle between two players that were playing really well.
Murray was solid from the start serving very well and keeping Tiafoe away from any break points. The American held his serve as well but had to save a few break points along the way. Murray faced the first break point late in the set and it was actually a set point but held his nerve to force a tiebreak. This time around Tiafoe was better taking a 6-3 lead. The American complicated matters but eventually won it with 9-7.
The final set featured more aggressive play for both in order to keep the points short. Tiafoe broke Murray midway through the set for a 3-2 lead but the Brit pulled it back immediately so it was 3-3. Once again we ended up in a tiebreak and what an epic one it was. Both players served out of their minds which is why Murray only was able to squeeze by with a 10-8 win. A remarkable performance from both players in the longest bo3 match of this season.
