Andy Murray took another wild card to play in Doha and it proved like a good idea as he won a very long battle with Sonego where he saved a match point 4-6 6-1 7-6(4).
Murray lost his serve early in this one as he faced a rather inspired Sonego who recently hit 1 million plays on Spotify with his song. Carried by his serve, Sonego finished off the first set 6-4 losing only two points behind his first serve. It seemed like Murray would find it very hard to get back into the match but it proved completely false.
He smashed the Italian 6-1 in the second set with an impressive level. He upped his aggressiveness and served 9 winners to Sonego in the 6-1 beatdown. The final set resembled more the first than the second because both produced a really solid level overall. Sonego was more aggressive overall producing more winners but it didn't help him in the end.
He did have three match points late in the set at 5-4 but Murray was able to survive. The Brit was then down 0-3 but fought all the way back to win six points in a row. He then finished it off with 7-4. A spectacular comeback from Murray who is proving himself to be a master of those this year. He sails into R2.
