The last time Baez and Musetti played it was the Argentinian who won at the Next Gen ATP Finals but this time around in Barcelona it was Musetti paying back the favour 7-5 7-5.
A good opening round match happaene d today in Barcelona between Sebastian Baez and Lorenzo Musetti. Both of them are the future of tennis and we will see them for many more years but even at their young age they have shown a lot of promise. Both love to play on clay and both played at the Next ATP Finals last year.
It was Baez that won that match but this time around on a different surface Musetti proved better. The Italian started slowly in this match falling behind 0-2 early on. The Italian has quite a balanced playstyle with Baez mostly an attacking one. He tends to overhit quite a bit at this stage of his career and after getting into a bad rhythm he fell behind 2-4.
Musetti won four games in a row and looked in control but gave it all away with some questionable choices of his during rallies. Eventually, the Italian did win the first set with 7-5 after a hard battle between two evenly matched players. The start of the 2nd set had Baez playing better than Musetti as he took a 2-1 lead but he gave it right back to 2-2.
At 5-4, Musetti had 40-0 on Baez's serve but he failed to convert that to a match victory with the Argentine holding one. He had the same thing at 6-5 and this time around he immediately convert it to move on to the 2nd round.
