The French Open 2024 is moving towards conclusion where remaining players are battling it out to secure the ultimate prize. In the men’s singles category, the semifinal lineup is nearly complete with just one quarterfinal remaining.
One of the participants, Norway’s Casper Ruud, booked his place in the last four after the world number one, Novak Djokovic, withdrew following a knee injury.
The 36-year-old announced the development after securing a win in the fourth round against Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo in the round of 16, with scores of 6-1, 5-7, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.
With that development, for the first time in 20 years, there will be a champion in the men’s singles category who is not named Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, Djokovic or Stan Wawrinka. It will also be the first time a new winner will be born after Djokovic.
Since 2005, Nadal has won 14 French Open titles, three of which were lifted by Djokovic, whereas Federer and Wawrinka each lifted the title once.

Italy’s Jannik Sinner cemented his place in the last four after beating Bulgaria’s Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-4, 7-6.
He will face the world number three Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, who booked his place in the semifinal after beating Greece’s Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets with a score of 6-3, 7-6, 6-4.
The only quarterfinal which is remaining in the men’s singles category is between Australia’s Alex de Minaur and Germany’s Alexander Zverev.
