Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from the Melbourne Summer Set with asthma. Petkovic vs Samsonova will now be followed by Dimitrov & Goffin vs Middelkoop & Van De Zandschulp on RLA.
Nick Kyrgio was supposed to start his 2022 season at the Melbourne Summer Set today but the Australian was forced to abandon those plans.
Playing at home is something Kyrgios enjoys doing the most but he will need to wait another week before he is able to do that. Scheduled to take on Alex Molcan, Kyrgios pulled out from the match and event a couple of hours before it was set to take place. The news was announced on the official Australian Open Twitter page with 'Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from the Melbourne Summer Set with asthma.'
The announcement was further followed by quotes provided by Kyrgios where he explained that he's been feeling unwell for a couple of days. He said:
"I'm really sorry that I've had to pull out from this Melbourne Summer Set event. I have been feeling run down and unwell for 4 days. I have had several Covid tests over the last few days which all came back negative."
He further said:
"I don't feel 100% so I need to take this week to be ready for Sydney next week. I was really looking forward to experiencing the best fans in the world here at home! I can't wait to get back out there and see you all. Take care out there and see you soon."
