Novak Djokovic took down
Stan Wawrinka in two comfortable sets for the Serbian with the final score being 6-2 6-2 and Djokovic moving to the quarterfinals.
Stan Wawrinka played great to reach the 3rd round of the Rome Masters but when it became apparent that he would face Novak Djokovic everybody knew it would be tough. It was even more evident that Wawrinka might struggle after playing a long match against Djere in round 2 and having to play not even 24 hours later. Well, it's been a struggle for Wawrinka who looked slow and old compared to Djokovic.
It was only natural because Wawrinka lacks fitness for the biggest of matches but he will get there in time. He lost his serve early in the opening set and then found some rhythm. Djokovic patiently waited for his turn and he added a little bit more pressure to finish off the set with 6-2. The set opened with an early break by Djokovic as well but this time around Wawrinka went for it a bit more.
The Swiss man hit a few good winners and he forced Djokovic to save some break points. Djokovic did and he then added another break to his tally taking a commanding lead. Wawrinka pulled one break back but surrendered his serve once more to give Djokovic the easy 6-2 6-2 win. He moves on to face Auger-Aliassime in the quarterfinal.
