Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley has approved the construction of a statue to honor 10-time champion Novak Djokovic at Melbourne Park.

The Serbian superstar put on an impressive performance at this year's Grand Slam event, reaching the semifinals. However, Djokovic was forced to retire in his final four match against Alexander Zverev, after sustaining a torn muscle in his quarterfinal clash against Carlos Alcaraz.

Djokovic's status to be featured alongside those of other tennis greats

The former World No.1 has been the most successful player at the Happy Slam, winning more singles titles than any other play. Tiley revealed he would like to have Djokovic's statue erected on the grounds, along with the statues of other tennis legends.

"I'd like to have a whole precinct full of statues of the great tennis players," said Tiley in an interview with News Corp. "Every year we put up a new statue of an Australian and this precinct is about tennis, it was built with tennis in mind.
"We have so many people that come here from right around the world. They come to the precinct when the Australian Open is not on because they want to see the place that it happens, and I think there is more we can offer those fans from the tennis precinct.
"I think any time we can recognize tennis or the champions of the game I'm going to go for it. Whether it's Novak, Roger Federer, Serena Williams – the list goes on."
