Novak Djokovic will play until the end of the season, but hasn’t yet decided on the exact schedule.
Novak Djokovic will return to the courts in 2021 ending the chance of him sitting out the rest of the 2021 season.
Ever since Novak Djokovic lost the US Open final, many rumours started circulating how Djokovic was unlikely to return to the courts for the rest of 2021. While never confirmed the rumours had him sit out both the ATP Finals and the Paris Masters. Djokovic himself did not want to elaborate on his future too much after the loss and has since laid back out of the spotlight.
However reports from Serbian media suggest that Djokovic won't sit out the rest of 2021. The news was reported by noted Serbian tennis journalist Saša Ozmo who shared it on his official Twitter. He wrote:
"Djokovic will play until the end of the season, but hasn't decided yet on the exact schedule."
It's the most sensible thing for Djokovic to do as there is still work to do for the Serbian. The ATP Finals are a big event and Djokovic would want to end the year with a big trophy. He would also confirm that he is still the best player in the world which many questioned after his US Open loss.
Djokovic will also retain the No. 1 spot on the year-end rankings as Medvedev can't overtake him mathematically. The Russian needed to win the Indian Wells to stay in the race however he failed to do that and Djokovic will finish the year as No. 1 once more.
