Australia’s tennis star
Nick Kyrgios has revealed that he
and the current world number one
Novak Djokovic ‘speak nearly every day’.
The two were famous for their intense rivalry but things
started to change when they went against each other in the final at Wimbledon in
2022. In that match, Djokovic won the title with a score of 4–6, 6–3, 6–4,
7–6(7–3).
Kyrgios, who is currently working for Eurosport as an analyst,
stated that he and the 36-year-old remain in constant touch.
“We just talk about anything, we just send memes to each
other,” he said. “He hit an unbelievable volley the other day. I was like where
do you even get these hands from? You didn’t have them against me at Wimbledon.
And then he was like, I got it from you.”
Djokovic is often regarded as the greatest player in the
history of tennis in the men’s singles category in the Open era, having won as
many as 24 Grand Slam titles.
The Belgrade-born had a tough start to his
Australian Open
campaign as he defeated Croatia’s Dino Prizmic with a score of 6-2, 6-7, 6-3,
6-4. He will now face Alexei Popyrin in the second-round fixture on Wednesday.
