Alexander Zverev kicked off his Wimbledon campaign with a straight-sets win over Tallon Griekspoor.
The German played a very good match from start to finish in indoor conditions and moved to the 2nd round of Wimbledon. For Zverev it's a good start considering his habit of complicating early Slam matches unnecessarily. After the match he said:
“Everybody was saying that I don't do too well in Slams, but I was also 19, 20, 21 years old. I was young. Playing well at Slams is a different thing than playing well at other tournaments."
Zverev further continued by saying:
“Yes, I was winning Masters Series, I was winning the World Tour Finals, I was No.3 in the world. Out of the young guys, I was always the first to do things. But now, I mean, look, the last probably 12 months, or even since Australia 2020, I have shown great results, and I think now people will ask, ‘When are you going to win one?’
Zverev has no doubt in his mind he will win a Grand Slam in his career but he also undertands that people will always question him:
“When I win one, people are going to ask, I don't know, ‘Why don't you win 10?’ Or something like this. There is always going to be something that will be a question.”
