Australia’s Nick Kyrgios has hit out at critics who believe that he should focus on playing tennis instead of playing video games. The 29-year-old is famous for being outspoken and has been involved in controversies for making comments that did not go down well with the fans.
Kyrgios has been once again in the news as he hit back on critics who asked him to focus on playing tennis instead of playing video games. The former world number 13, in a post on his official account on the social media platform Instagram, stated that he never plays such video games, instead there are others who used his name as their username. “For those of you thinking I sit there and play Fortnite you are dumb a**es but I'm glad it keeps you happy. People usually like to use my name in the username of video games. Glad you got your clout,” he wrote.
Kyrgios, who was once regarded as the most talented Australian player in men’s tennis in the singles category, has now been out of action for nearly two years because of fitness concerns. He suffered a serious back injury during the US Open in 2022 which has now forced him to miss as many as eight Grand Slams. Most recently, Kyrgios was quoted in a report where he stated that he is looking to return to the court to finally win a Grand Slam.
"I am coming back because something is keeping me around the game," he said. "I have beaten pretty much every person that has been put in front of me, made a final of a Grand Slam, won a doubles title in a Grand Slam, won multiple titles and made money. But I think the one thing that is now on my target is a Grand Slam. I think that will be the only thing that will shut people up at the end of the day. That'll be my deep motivation."
