Former player and current analyst Mark Petchey believes that
Holger Rune will be the reason to watch tennis in the coming years expressing his thoughts on social media.
Holger Rune has already become a rather polarizing figure in the game of tennis with fans either loving or hating him. He's clashed with players, fans, and umpires but he's also won trophies proving himself to be a really great player. Yes, there are flaws in his game and his personality but he's not really hiding who he is which is something that is needed in tennis.
Reacting to his Tennis Channel interview, Petchey declared him as the reason to watch the sport in the coming years:
"Love this guy. Growing up in the spotlight is never easy but he is very much going to be a reason why fans tune into watch this sport. Can’t ask for more than that from player."
He further compared him to Murray coming up remembering what the then ATP ceo told him:
"Remember Etienne De Villiers waking up to Andy in Oz in 2006 and just
said “Hi - never change” That was it. He knew what sport and
entertainment looked like and he saw it in Andy straight away. Holger
gives me the same vibes"
