Rising star Zheng was able to overcome a slow start against Alyia Parks at the
Porsche Tennis Grand Prix to win 6-4 6-4 and advance to the next round.
Zheng impressed many by being the only player that won a set against Iga Swiatek at last year's Roland Garros and her return to clay was very good. A slow start made things a bit uncomfortable for Zheng but she was quickly able to rise above that and start playing better. The serve was okay albeit neither player served particularly well.
Ultimately the double fault proved problematic for Parks as six was simply too much. Zheng won the opening set 6-4 and in the second one, she took an early break 3-1. She had three consecutive break chances in the first game of that set but ultimately got it a bit later. From there it was a simple plan of focusing on her own serve and it worked out well for her.
A 6-4 finish with four aces and only four points lost after her first serve. A really good start for her.
