Richard Gasquet defeated
Daniil Medvedev in his first match back in straight sets and that match had a lot of interesting caveats to it.
Daniil Medvedev losing in his first match back from injury is not a surprise, less so against Richard Gasquet in Geneva where the Frenchman lives and practices for many years. However, the loss was a troubling continuation for Medvedev against French players as he now holds a 16-22 record all-time against French players.
It's an interesting stat considering how dominant the Russian generally can be. But that's not the only amazing stat coming from that match. Richard Gasquet has an even better one. By defeating Medvedev, who was ranked number two at the time, Gasquet has now defeated every ranking from 1 to 100 on the ATP tour. It's quite amazing when you think about it and just a testament to his longevity and greatness. 7
