Andrey Rublev is in his first final of the year and it comes where he won last year (Dubai) after a win over
Alexander Zverev which was the first time he ever defeated.
Rublev never defeated Zverev in the past but he got it done today with a very solid display. Both players haven't shined bright this year but found some good form in Dubai this week. This matchup always gave problems to Rublev in the past but he finally passed it with a sturdy display 6-3 7-6(9).
The first set was an interesting one as Zverev was unable to use his serve efficiently enough. He served somewhat better than Rublev but got outplayed in the rallies by the Russian who had fewer errors than Zverev. Rublev won the majority of points behind his second serve which Zverev didn't.
He is one of the worst players in second-serve points winning percentage ranking 49th out of the top 50 ranked players on Tour. The second set was a bit better as he served really well from the start. 9 aces and 17 winners overall were enough to keep him in play until the tiebreak and he even had a set point at 8-7 but ultimately Rublev pulled it out 11-9.
