Aryna Sabalenka was utterly ruthless in her first match after the Australian Open proving that the triumph was not by chance as she smashed Lauren Davis 6-0 6-2.
Aryna Sabalenka took some time off after her Australian Open triumph but it didn't matter much as she was utterly impressive in her first match back. She took on Lauren Davis, a solid player but not one that can challenge the likes of Sabalenka. She really didn't challenge at all in the first set losing 0-6.
She won only 5 points on her serve as Sabalenka dominated the rallies with her groundstrokes. The second set opened 3-0 for Sabalenka until she finally relaxed a bit and Davis was able to win a game. Sabalenka is clearly feeling really confident in her game and that's what she admitted before the event saying that she likes the conditions this year and that she might do good.
She did better than good 6-0 6-1. Joining her in the next round will be Jelena Ostapenko who smashed 17-year-old Fruhvirtova 6-2 6-0. The youngster lacked the firepower to resist Ostapenko who was able to unleash a lot of power due to the somewhat slower conditions. Two very impressive wins for both Sabalenka and Ostapenko.
