Sebastian Korda's father Petr won the
Australian Open in his day and his son channelled some of that down under magic in a superb win over 2022 runner-up
Daniil Medvedev.
Seeds are dropping like flies in Melbourne as Daniil Medvedev added his name to the list. It wasn't a good match by Medvedev but he certainly didn't expect to play a flawless Korda and he was really flawless. At times Medvedev was spotted shaking his head in disbelief because Korda was not to be denied.
He showed a rather high level against Djokovic in Adelaide barely losing the final and sounded very bullish on his future. It seems like the match gave him even more confidence because he was sensational today. 7-6(7) 6-3 7-6(4) was the final score as Korda rebounded well from throwing away a lead in the final set.
He attacked in every rally and he did it really well. That playstyle yielded more mistakes than winners but he was still far better than Medvedev. He had 49 winners compared to only 28 from Medvedev which was more than enough. Not much to be added, everything was done exceptionally well. Best win of his career.
