Sebastian Korda took the lead, then lost it but finally rallied to win a highly thrilling match against Brandon Nakashima in Milan.
It was a brilliant match between two young Americans that will cary American tennis in the next decade. Brandon Nakashima and Sebastian Korda showed themselves in great ligh in Milan and it was the more experience Korda who was able to win the match. Korda has been a mainstay on the Tour for the better part of the year while Nakashima lacks experience on the highest of level. Today it showed.
Early on it was a very good match between two players who embody the American style of play well. Strong first serve, strong groundstrokes, and very aggressive overall. In those circumstances, we ended up in a tiebreak where Korda dominated 7-3. After that, we saw a resurgence from Nakashima who relaxed quite a bit and his play showed that.
Playing very aggressive and not fearing the moment the American played two sensational sets hitting multiple winners in both with very few errors. That was enough to win them 4-2 and 4-1. Nakashima looked primed for a spot in the final yet Korda was able to pull out some magic. First, he took an early break in the 4th set to get himself back on track winning it 4-2.
He then patiently waited in the 5th set for a chance and the moment he got it, he took it. Nakashima ultimately failed to produce his best in key moments and Korda was able to do so. Korda also had some groin issues but played through them bravely securing a spot in the final tomorrow.
