Musetti played well for Italy last week during the Davis Cup qualifiers but he met his match against Sebastian Korda. 3-6 6-7(6).
The match was a very good one but as expected Korda simply dealt a bit better with the conditions. The Italian was leading the H2H 2-1 but both his wins came on clay. While solid on clay, Korda does better on faster surfaces where his serve because a major weapon.
It certainly was in this one as it allowed him to finish off points quickly just like he did when he finally got a match point. The opening was a solid battle with Korda taking an early break and holding it without any issues. He didn't face a single break point in the opening set.
The second opened much better for Musetti as he jumped out to an early break 2-0. Korda was misfiring a bit at that time but he quickly got back into it with his rhythm and made it 2-2. From there it was largely a typical indoor match, serves did well enough to keep the players from break points and we ended up in a tiebreak.
It largely followed the second part of the set with neither player being able to take a mini-break early. Musetti was the first one to do so but he lost it not long after. Eventually, Korda got match points but he converted the second one to close it out.
