Novak Djokovic is one of the biggest sporting heroes of Serbian and probably will go down in history as the best athlete from that country ever.
It's no wonder why his countrymen naturally gravitate to him anytime tennis is brought up as a topic. The sport itself does not enjoy overwhelming popularity in the country but in the past decade saw the interest in it explode mainly thanks to Djokovic and his continued historic success. More kids than ever have picked up a racquet in Serbia and
Filip Krajinovic understands why.
Speaking about his
Davis Cup teammate, Krajinvoic said:
"It has helped me out a lot. Back in Serbia, people follow tennis a lot because of Novak. The rest of us are second league, but they are still following. I always try and say I am a tennis player. If I need a reservation, I try to always have my tennis racquet next to me. I am hoping they know who I am. Serbia is a very small country, so we all know each other."
Djokovic has been key in Serbia's run to the Davis Cup semifinals delivering crucial points in several ties. In fact, Djokovic has been the only player that was able to win a singles match for his nation at this year's Davis Cup. All of Krajinovic, Lajovic, and Kecmanovic lost the matches they played.
