Serena Willaims quickly forgot about her Rome Masters loss and returned to winning ways at the
Emilia-Romagna open defeating Pigato 6-3 6-2.
After her Rome Masters stay was cut short due to an unexpected loss at the start of the event Serena took a wild card entry into the Emilia-Romagna Open. The American was keen to get some more matches under her belt ahead of the Roland Garros.
Today in Parma, she got one and it was a very good one. Taking on qualifier Lisa Pigato she was great in defeating the native Italian in straight sets. Serena served well at the start of the match which continued through the opening set. She hit 67 % of her 1st serves along with 4 aces en route to the 6-3 opening set win.
She was even more impressive in the 2nd set as she found some rhythm. Pigato could not do anything while receiving as Serena took control of points early with her aggressive play. She moved great around the court and was able to overpower Pigato in most rallies.
After taking a 5-1 lead in the 2nd set Williams was quick to wrap up the match with 6-2. The match lasted just over an hour and Serena will be happy to get a win on clay which should boost her confidence going forward. This event might prove key for her as she prepared for the Roland Garros.
