Jannik Sinner had no issues in his math against Herbert while Shapovalov had many and lost against Simon in Cologne.
Gilles Simon and Denis Shapovalov played a spectacular match in Cologne today as well with the Frenchman upsetting the Canadian 6-1 4-6 6-2. It was a spectacular display from Simon, especially in the first and final set. The first set despite the obvious crushing result was tougher for Simon that in looked. Shapovalov struggled hitting his 1st serve less than 50 % and on his 2nd serve he only won 4 of 17 points. It was a terrible display and Simon crushed him deservedly.
Things looked much better in the 2nd set where Shapovalov managed to break Simon early. He started playing better on his 2nd serve as well which was enough for him to maintain the early lead. In the end, he won the set with 6-4. The final set was the set where he served the best but ironically it was a set he played the worst. Simon jumped out to an early lead which snowballed to a 4-0 lead. In the end, he won the set 6-2. An impressive feat from the veteran who deserved the victory as he played better throughout the match.
