Sofia Kenin has had an extraordinary 2020 that saw her win her first grand slam and reach number 4 on the rankings.
Now as the 2021 season is officially underway she spoke and reflected on her fantastic 2020 season. Speaking on it she said:
"It’s crazy that it’s been a year, and it feels like it was just yesterday. I definitely feel like I’m a top player, and I’ve proven it.
She is currently in Abu Dhabi preparing for the Abu Dhabi WTA Women's Tennis Open which will kick off the 2021 WTA season. Speaking about how she is entering this year she said:
"Overall confidence has, of course, gone up. I had a really good last year, tennis-wise, so I’m just going to try to keep the momentum going."
Speaking about the Australian Open she admitted that is very different entering a grand slam as the defending champion:
"Of course, different pressure, since I’m the defending champion, but I’m just going to try to get that out of my head and just take one match at a time. Hopefully, I’ll have a good run there."
It will be a similar approach to when she won it in 2020 where she just gave her best and it worked:
"I’m just happy with the way I handled the pressure. I told myself, ‘I’m just going to leave everything out on the court and we’ll see what’s gonna happen,’ and it happened really good for me."
