Tsitsipas complicated this match quite a bit spending a good 40 minutes more on the court than he needed to but he won it in four sets so he won't be too mad 7-6(29 6-4 6-7(6) 6-3.
As expected it was a match where Tsitsipas was favoured and ultimately it proved correct. The Greek player booked his maiden grand slam final over Khachanov with a 4-set victory. The first set went to a tiebreak which was again due to the Greek's nature to complicate things. He was up 5-3, served for the set but failed to serve it out.
The tie-break was decisive as he took an early 4-1 lead and held it for a 7-2 finish. The second set was simpler for Tsitsipas as he played another good set but picked the perfect time to break. It was late in the set and Khachanov was not unable to rally for a comeback. The next one was quite different.
In that one, Khachanov proved a proper cat using all of his 9 lives. Tsitsipas was up a break early 3-1 and cruised comfortably towards a conclusion. He complicated once more by getting broken in what should have been the final game of the match to completely shift momentum. A good comeback happened in the tiebreak when he went up 5-3 but he wasted two match points as Khachanov took the tiebreak 8-6.
Tsitsipas bounced back well in the final set taking an early break and then cruising towards the finish line. A superb performance with 18 aces and 66 winners but some moments that he'll need to eliminate for the final, especially if Djokovic is the opponent.
