Tennis Australia CEO Craig Tiley believes that star player Nick
Kyrgios will take part in the first Grand Slam of the year despite still being
in a recovery phase.
The 28-year-old is still recovering from a serious injury he
suffered last year which ruled him out of action for the whole of the 2023 season.
Despite that, Tiley was recently quoted in a report where he expressed optimism
that Kyrgios will take part in the mega-event.
“The update is day-by-day with him,” he said. “He'll be best
to assess that ... we're going to have Nick here in some form or another in
January. Hopefully it is to play because he's a crowd-pleaser. We love watching
Nick and love having him around.”
Kyrgios’s injury was a serious setback for the player as he
was arguably playing his best tennis in 2022. It was because of this reason he
also ended up climbing to as high as number 10 in the ATP ranking.
Last year, Kyrgios also played in his first and till now only Grand Slam final at Wimbledon where he lost to Serbia’s legendary tennis
star and the current world number one Novak Djokovic with a score of 4–6, 6–3,
6–4, 7–6.
