Tiafoe pulls a Tsitsipas in Estoril, comes back to win against Lajovic

Frances Tiafoe was on his way to losing this match when he took a medical timeout breaking the rhythm of Lajovic who never came back into the match 2-6 7-5 6-0.

Frances Tiafoe did not enter this match very well as the American lost his serve in the first game. Lajovic has been rather solid lately especially compared to his level last year which was borderline unwatchable. The Serbian did lose quite a bit of match but he usually started them really well. This was another one as he was able to add another break, later on, to close out the first 6-2.

Tiafoe consulted with doctors between sets as the American was not feeling well. He did not take an MTO immediately but took one after the first three games were played in the 2nd set. He was down 2-1 with Lajovic up a break and well on his way to winning this match. After returning, Tiafoe looked much better and sharper getting the break back.

The turnaround was stunning as he looked way better. Even so, Lajovic was still in rhythm and he broke his opponent once more. Tiafoe got it back once again and upped his level again. He looked better and better with Lajovic slowing predictable cracks in his level. Towards the end of the set, Tiafoe was able to secure it 7-5.

The final set featured an epic collapse by Lajovic who did not win a single game in that set. Tiafoe cruised with ease in 30 minutes 6-0. The Serbian never looked the same after the MTO.
