Norway’s tennis star Casper Ruud made a light-hearted jibe at America’s Tommy Paul in a video that appeared on social media. The moment came in the video released by Tennis One App on the social media platform X—previously known as Twitter—which featured Ruud, Australia’s Alex De Minaur, and the former US Open winner Dominic Thiem.
During the video, players talked about participating in a contest where they suffered a 6-0, 6-0 defeat. While discussing this, De Minaur revealed that he was beaten 6-0, 6-0 by Paul in the US Open Juniors semifinals.
In response, Ruud made an interesting comment that was nothing more than a light-hearted jibe at Paul. "Wow. Was he able to focus for 12 games in a row? I can't believe that," he said.
Interestingly, Ruud and Paul have faced each other in six outings in professional tennis, where Norway’s tennis star has a clear edge with four wins and two defeats.
Their first meeting was in the first round of the Citi Open back in 2017, where Paul came out on top after his opponent was forced to retire before the start of the third set. Interestingly, Paul once again came out on top in their most recent outing as well, which was during the Indian Wells in 2024. The American tennis star secured the win with a score of 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.
Ruud is going through an impressive season overall. The world number eight has played in eight finals during the ongoing season, where he emerged victorious on two occasions and suffered defeat thrice. His biggest win came in the Barcelona Open where he lifted the title after Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece in the final with a score of 7-5, 6-3.
On the other hand, Paul has been having a hard time throughout the season. His best appearance came in the Delray Beach Open. He finished that event as the runner-up after losing in the final to fellow American Taylor Fritz in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
